Reds aim for big wins in the City of Brotherly Love
A three-game set over the July 4th weekend!
Though the Cincinnati Reds are fresh off a frustrating series loss to the Boston Red Sox, the good news around these parts is that they went 15-11 in the month of June and are beginning to look like a team with an identity.
You’ve noticed it, right? You know exactly what kind of ball this team can be expected to play, right?
Right?
The Reds road show is now in Philadelphia to face the leaders of the National League East, and they’re up against three starting pitchers who will undoubtedly present them with serious problems.
Friday afternoon’s starter, Jesus Luzardo, has pitched to a 2.78 ERA in 22.2 IP across his most recent four starts and, unfortunately, is a lefty. He’ll be followed by Ranger Suarez on Saturday, who owns a 212 ERA+ on the season and - if the Reds don’t wreck his numbers - is likely headed to his second straight All Star Game. Then, the club gets to face ace Zack Wheeler on Sunday, who’s barreling towards his first ever Cy Young Award at this rate.
Yeesh.
To their credit, the Reds will be countering with a potentially formidable pitching rotation of their own, with soon-to-be All Star Andrew Abbott up first followed by a pair of former 1st round picks in Nick Lodolo and Chase Burns. In theory, they’ve got an on-paper shot at this, but they’re going to have to get a little bit plucky and lucky to make it happen.
First pitch Friday is slated for an early holiday start at 1:05 PM ET, with Saturday (4:05 PM ET) and Sunday (1:35 PM ET) also matinee affairs. All three games can be viewed on FanDuel Sports Network.
