WBSC publishes Carbon Footprint Report; Strengthens partnership with Green Future Project reaffirming commitment to sustainability in sport
As part of its ongoing efforts to minimise the global environmental impact and promote long-term sustainability in sport through data-driven decisions and impactful partnerships, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), in collaboration with the Green Future Project (GFP), has officially published its 2024 Carbon Footprint Report. The report serves as a diagnostic tool, offering a clear identification of the WBSC’s main sources of emissions to better prioritise future actions.
"At the WBSC, we recognise the responsibility of sport in addressing global challenges, and we remain committed to advancing sustainability and leaving a positive impact both on and off the field," said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.
The WBSC used the Green Future Project Carbon Tool to calculate its 2024 carbon footprint in order to understand its environmental impact and identify opportunities to take meaningful climate action. The report provides a foundation for shaping the WBSC’s future environmental strategies and setting reduction targets.
Strengthening the partnership with Green Future Project (GFP)
The WBSC and GFP have been working together since 2023 as part of a strategic partnership aimed at keeping both sport and the planet sustainable. Together, they are now launching a new initiative: the Tana River Forest Regeneration Project.
"Since 2022, it has been a true pleasure working with the WBSC to address climate change in the sports industry on multiple fronts," said GPF Co-Founder Briano Marinoni. "Not only has the WBSC consistently tracked and measured their emissions, but they have also contributed to ecosystem restoration and conservation efforts across three continents, pioneering climate action on a global scale."

Located on the northern coast of Kenya near Kipini, the Tana River Forest Regeneration Project is the first fully managed initiative by Green Future Project. Its goal is to strengthen and restore mangrove forests along the Tana River Delta while generating new socio-economic value for local communities.
“We are proud to continue strengthening our partnership with the Green Future Project and contribute to global climate action through the Tana River forest regeneration project in Kenya," President Fraccari added. "Following our successful mangrove restoration efforts in Madagascar, this new initiative not only supports the environment but also creates meaningful socio-economic opportunities for local communities."
The WBSC will continue to expand its sustainability roadmap by deepening partnerships with expert organisations such as GFP, enhancing its monitoring and reporting practices, and supporting high-quality environmental projects. These actions reflect the WBSC’s belief that sustainability is not a side effort, but a core responsibility for the future of sport and society.
