For a time on Saturday, it looked again like the Cincinnati Reds were going to stifle the San Diego Padres and take yet another series victory.

The club jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, and lefty Andrew Abbott was keeping Padres hitters confused with his delivery. Alas, a Luis Arraez solo dinger off Abbott began to turn the tide, and Abbott’s heavy pitch count meant San Diego got to face off against a weary Cincinnati bullpen for the last four frames.

The Reds bullpen simply wasn’t up to the task last night, and that early lead was flipped into a 6-4 loss. Now, Cincinnati will turn to Nick Lodolo in this Sunday’s matinee series finale to try to take the series.
