Roundtable: Who Is The Next Prospect To Make Their MLB Debut?
Let’s talk Mets debuts. There are some players that deserve a chance to get called up to the big leagues this season. Blade Tidwell was already a preseason top prospect who’s made his debut. Who do we think we’ll get to see sooner rather than later? Here’s who we think will be the next Met to make their MLB debut.

Nolan McLean is next up to make his debut. The Mets’ rotation is starting to show some cracks in addition to suffering two injuries. McLean is off to a good start in the minor leagues this season, setting him up for a big league debut sooner versus later.

Brandon Sproat: Following a rough two start stretch where he allowed 12 of his 28 earned runs and 3 of 4 home runs, he has rebounded and has a 2.95 era over his last four starts.
David Melendi
Jett Williams has primarily played shortstop but he’s also played some center. The job is there for the taking and he’s in the top 10 in batting average, OBP and slugging in the Eastern League.
Johnluke Chaparro
Brandon Sproat. Basically the guy who has been around for a bit and after Tidwell and Hagenman with their chances, seems like he’s next in line. I have no other reasoning or basis behind that except that I think the Mets will want to take a look at him and see what he has!
Mojo Hill
I think it’s gotta be McLean next with him trending in the right direction and Sproat not. The Mets suddenly need the help in their pitching depth pretty urgently, and it would be a huge to get a spark from someone like McLean.

Next Met to debut is Nolan McLean. With the Mets’ rotation depth wearing thin, he’s suddenly a real candidate to step in as a starter. Both his fastball and the monster sweeper have translated well in Triple-A, and he’s just looking more and more like a big leaguer each time he takes the mound.
Nick Kalantzopoulos
I think plans A, B, and C for the Mets in the starting rotation are veteran options. But if the shaky outings of Montas and Blackburn continue, or the team deals with any additional injuries, Nolan McLean will be the next player to make his major league debut as a Met.
Matthew Tutrone
Nolan McLean. What a name! What a sweeper! He started out as a 2-way player, so maybe he can hit too? (Kidding! kinda?)
Brandyn Pokrass
Nolan McLean: I think McLean is going to force New York’s hand sooner rather than later. His stuff has been a plus and his strikeout numbers have been solid. If he reigns in the command a bit more, I think New York will call upon him to get his first shot in the majors.
Patrick Glynn
Jonah Tong. Nolan McLean might be the right answer, but Tong would be the bold choice. Injuries are starting to mount, and Tong has been the best pitcher in the Mets organization this season. I don’t think he needs to “prove” his stuff works in Triple-A.
