Mets Enjoy Offensive Explosion in Colorado Finale
The Mets’ offense exploded against the Rockies on Sunday as they closed out their series with a sweep, completing the six-game season sweep. The Mets drove in 13 runs on 17 hits on Sunday, with eight of their nine starters contributing to the hit parade with at least one more hit.
Out of those 17 hits, Juan Soto (3-for-3), Pete Alonso (3-for-6), Jeff McNeil (3-for-5), and Francisco Alvarez (3-for-5) all had three hits each; Ronny Mauricio (2-for-3) had a couple.
While the talk of the town surrounds the Mets’ woes with runners in scoring position, the team took matters into their own hands… sort of. They went 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base. However, the team put their power on display, belting six home runs (McNeil 2, Alonso 2, Baty, Alvarez).
There’s no question that Pete Alonso has been the hottest hitter on the Mets the past week. The team is finally coming into full form as his compadres seem to have broken out of their season slumps and appear headed for better days.
Soto Sighting
While the Polar Bear stole the show with his franchise-closing homer run, Soto turned heads in Colorado. The $765 million man struggled to get going in the first month of the season. But over the first eight days of June, Soto is showing the Soto of spring that excited Mets fans in the first place.
In May, Soto was batting just .219/.345/.448 with a 793 OPS. In just one week in June, Soto is hitting .346/.564/.615 with a 1.179 OPS. That includes the three hits against the Rockies on Friday, a game where he reached base four times. On Sunday, Soto accomplished a career first, reaching base in all six appearances (three hits, three walks).
June has brought out the Soto the Mets feared for so long and the player they coveted in the signing process. He’s beginning to find his groove in the blue and orange and looks ready to help the team come to fruition this summer.
2x for Jeff McNeil as he hits his second homer in only four innings.

El Jefe and El Troll
Like Soto, Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez are enjoying hot starts to June after a successful series in Colorado.
Both started the season on the injured list, McNeil with an oblique strain and Alvarez with hamate bone surgery. However, when they rejoined the team around the same time, both struggled to find their footing.
McNeil batted just .222/.351/.429 with a .780 OPS in May. In June, he’s hitting .296/.345/.704 with a 1.049 OPS. The Flying Squirrel has racked up three homers in a week this month compared to two in all of May, including a multi-homer game Sunday in Colorado. Calling back to his former batting champ days, McNeil has hit in all three of his last games and has recorded a hit in every game in June except one.
Francisco Alvarez is also heating up at the plate just in time for the arrival of his first child. Alvarez was 3-for-5 on Sunday with two RBIs and a run scored, including a ninth-inning 450-foot moonshot.
Like Soto and McNeil, Alvarez’s season tells a similar story. He hit just .250/.348/.267 with a .615 OPS in May, but has flipped the script in June. In five games this month, the catcher is hitting .333/.364/.524 with a .888 OPS.
