Mariners Game Preview #59: 6/3/25, BAL at SEA
George Kirby squares off against the Orioles
The Mariners finish off this very long homestand by hosting the Orioles, one of the AL’s most surprising (derogatory) teams this season. The Orioles, a preseason darling playoff pick, instead find themselves buried in the basement of the AL East. Injuries have played a large role in the Orioles’ poor fortunes this year, and they’ll roll into Seattle without longtime Mariners-torturer Cedric Mullins or former Mariner prospect Tyler O’Neill.
However, the Orioles—fresh off a sweep of the White Sox, always good for what ails a ballclub—will get a huge bat back this series. The Orioles have been playing without one of their best players all season, as Colton Cowser has been out with a fractured thumb since the beginning of the season. He’s been activated today from the 60-day IL after tearhing things up on his rehab assignment. Super. Former Mariner Cooper Hummel has been DFA’d to make room for him on the roster.
Lineups:
Add the Orioles to the teams that love a landscape lineup graphic.
News:
Per Dan Wilson, Logan Gilbert will make another rehab start tomorrow night for Tacoma, at which point the team will reassess. The Rainiers are at home at Cheney Stadium if you’d like to get out to the game.
Captain’s Log:
Dan Wilson on George Kirby getting the command of his secondaries back:
“Each guy is going to be a little different, I’m sure, but yeah, some of the finer pitches that have a little bit more feel to them [are slower to come back after time down]. The fastball is always going to come back the easiest, and then the other stuff behind it. So he’s been working hard, the side sessions have been really good, he’s in a good spot.”
