Peterson Dominates Dodgers in 5-2 Win
On Saturday night, after a disastrous loss on Friday where the offense wasted opportunity after opportunity, New York got exactly what it needed in their 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets got an excellent outing from David Peterson, and it saw Brett Baty and Juan Soto come up huge at the plate for the win.

David Peterson Gives Mets What They Needed
Friday night’s loss saw an hour-and-a-half rain delay, where starter Griffin Canning left the game after just 2 2/3 innings. The bullpen would pitch the remainder of the game. In a tough task, Peterson went up against one of the best teams in baseball and was as good as he’s ever been. Peterson was in full control. He struck out seven Dodgers through 7 2/3 innings and only allowed two earned runs on five hits. One of those runs happened on a ball that should’ve been called a foul due to the ball hitting Dalton Rushing after he connected.
Despite the missed call, it didn’t bother Peterson, who kept it a 2-0 Dodger lead until the Mets broke through. Once New York gave him a lead, he settled into his best performance of the season to this point.
Juan Soto Finally Comes Up Clutch
If there was anybody who needed a big hit in this Mets lineup, and there are plenty of them right now, it was Soto. Soto’s struggles as of late have been well documented. The Citi Field faithful have been waiting for him to give them what they want. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth and the game tied 2-2, Soto ripped a double into the gap in right-center field to give the Mets a 4-2 lead. It was Soto’s first extra-base hit in two weeks and was the second of a two-hit night for him.
Brett Baty Clubs Three Hits, Drives in Two Runs
While the offense has been in a funk, Baty certainly hasn’t. In the win on Saturday, Baty was big once again. With the Mets down 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, the Mets got two baserunners on with two outs and Baty at the plate. He ripped a single through the hole that scored Jared Young to get the Mets on the board. Baty added another hit in the sixth, and then in the eighth, with the Mets still up 4-2, he added insurance with an RBI double. Over his last 22 games, Baty is batting .328 with six home runs, 16 RBIs, and a 1.051 OPS.
Player of the Game: David Peterson
Saturday’s performance from Peterson was as good as he has been throughout his career. His 7 2/3 innings of work with seven strikeouts was arguably the best performance by a Mets starter this season.
