ESPN’s Top 50 Update Features Two Mets Prospects
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel has released a refreshed Top 50 MLB Prospects with nearly a third of the MLB season in the books. In January, when McDaniels released his Top 100 MLB Prospects for 2025, the New York Mets had one representative in the top 50 in Jett Williams at No. 34. Brandon Sproat at No. 62, Ronny Mauricio at No. 67, and Drew Gilbert at No. 84 rounded out the rest of the Mets’ representation in the top 100.
With other top prospects losing prospect eligibility through major league service time as well as a strong start to the Double-A season, Jett Williams has remained in the top 50 and has risen to No. 20. He was included in McDaniel’s 55 Future Value (FV) tier.
Williams, 21, is hitting .292/.388/.517 with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs and nine stolen bases in 34 games for Binghamton.

Additionally, now included in McDaniel’s 50 FV tier and continuing his meteoric rise in the Mets system is 21-year-old right-hander Jonah Tong, who comes in at No. 50. Tong, a seventh-round pick in the ‘22 MLB Draft, burst onto the top prospect scene in 2024 when he earned two promotions and ended his excellent season with two starts in Double-A. Picking up where he left off in 2024, Tong has pitched to a 2.12 ERA in 34 innings to go along with a 4.8 H/9, 4.2 BB/9, and a terrific 15.6 K/9 rate.
Tong’s recent success has earned him back-to-back Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors. His first POTW award came after throwing a perfect 6 2/3 innings.
McDaniel mentioned Mets right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean in his article as the pitcher with the most upside of Tong and Brandon Sproat.
