- Aaron Nola (right ankle sprain)
- Status: 15-day IL
- Aaron Nola is on the injured list for the first time since 2017 with a right ankle sprain. He suffered the injury while doing agility work in the outfield of Steinbrenner Field during the Rays’ series in Tampa. The Phillies were worried about Nola overcompensating for the injury, leading to a change in mechanics — and perhaps a more serious injury. Nola could use a reset. He has a 6.16 ERA in nine starts.
- Nola’s ankle is still sore, Rob Thomson told reporters in Denver before the May 20 game against the Rockies. He is playing catch, but has not thrown off a mound since the injury. The Phillies are aiming to have him throw his first bullpen session during the A’s series in Sacramento over the weekend. — Last Updated on May 20 by Destiny Lugardo
- Andrew Painter (Tommy John surgery)
- Status: Currently pitching for Triple-A Lehigh Valley
- Top prospect Andrew Painter should be in line to make his big-league debut in “July-ish” as Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski put it this offseason. He hasn’t pitched in a regular season game since injuring his elbow during the spring of 2023, but he should be ready to make an impact once he’s up, even in a limited workload.
- Painter’s third start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21. His limit is 75 pitches over five innings, though the Phillies feel comfortable sending him back out for a sixth inning if his pitch count is below 75 after five, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Corey Seidman. He is pitching on five days rest as opposed to six in his previous minor league outings. The Phillies plan to keep him on that schedule for now. — Last Updated on May 20 by Destiny Lugardo
