Caribe win Puerto Rico Double-A League All-Star Game
Caribe beat Atlantico, 9-2, to claim the Puerto Rico Double-A Baseball League All Star Game at the Juan Josè Titi Beníquez in San Sebastian.
Yadiel Rivera (Plata de Comerio Pescadores) earned MVP honours, combining two hits and three RBIs. He also won the Home Run Derby, overcoming Jorge Buho Ortiz (Añasco Foundation) in the final.
It's the fourth consecutive All-Star Game for Caribe, a selection that included the best players of the East, Southeast, Central, and South Divisions. Atlantico included the best players of the North, Northeast, Southeast, and Metro Divisions.
The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) organised the All-Star Game with the support of the local Patrulleros franchise. FBPR dedicated the event to José Caco Vazquez (Cidra Bravos), who reached the 600 career hit milestone.
"I want to congratulate the Patrulleros," stated FBPR President Daniel Quiles in a press release. "It was a thrilling event, and the stadium experience will be in our memories for a long time. I also want to thank the San Sebastian Mayor, Eladio Cardona, who has been dedicated to the event from day one. Players, coaches, and umpires offered us an exciting baseball game. Thank you, everybody."
The event included the fifth edition of the Game of Legends, dedicated to the league's former stars, and a Baseball5 showcase. The Game of Legends was rained out after two innings with the Roberto Lugo team leading 2-0 over the Cano Garcia team.
FBPR also announced that the Central selection defeated Southeast, 3-1, in the final at the Nestor Morales Stadium in Humacao to repeat as U-23 Development League Champions.
