Morning Briefing: Jose Siri Progressing Faster Than Expected
Good morning, Mets fans, and a very Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there!
In his pregame press conference on Saturday, Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Jose Siri is progressing faster than expected by Mendoza and the Mets’ staff.
Siri has been out since April 12 with a fractured left tibia. He was originally projected to be out for 8-10 weeks.

Saturday was a special day for the Mets’ Double-A affiliate Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Right-handed pitchers Jonah Tong (the Mets’ No. 6-ranked prospect) and TJ Shook combined to throw the first perfect game in Rumble Ponies franchise history in game two (seven innings) of their doubleheader. Tong struck out a career-high 13 batters in 6 2/3 innings. Shook struck out one in 1/3 of an inning.
Jack Ramsey broke down Tong and Shook’s performances and the offensive performances from Saturday’s game.
Along with the perfect game by Tong and Shook, Ronny Mauricio hit an RBI double for Binghamton Saturday as well.
The major league Mets, meanwhile, lost 6-5 as the Cubs evened the series. Brett Baty homered twice to give him three in his last two games, but it wasn’t quite enough to offset Tylor Megill‘s shaky outing and a couple of runs permitted by Max Kranick. Read the full recap here.
