Mets Minors Recap: McLean Shines in Syracuse Debut
Nolan McLean was excellent in his first start at Triple-A Syracuse, striking out seven over seven scoreless innings to pick up where he left off at Double-A Binghamton. The 23-year-old righty was promoted after pitching to a 1.37 ERA over 26 1/3 innings. Single-A Brooklyn belted four homers in one inning in its win over Asheville.

Young sent his blast to the right. He hit .344 in April, but was in a 2-for-20 slump for this month entering Friday. The Mets were outhit, but three of their five hits were for extra bases, while all eight Jumbo Shrimp hits were singles.

Colin Poche and Ty Adcock each pitched an inning to finish the shutout. McLean was ranked No. 72 this week when Baseball America updated its list of the top 100 prospects in baseball.

The game was canceled due to rain and will not be rescheduled. The teams were already scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday due to a game that was rained out on Tuesday.

Serrano, Ewing, and Benge’s home runs were back-to-back-to-back solo shots, and Baez added the fourth dinger later in the same inning. Prior to the game, the teams completed a game that was suspended in the ninth inning Thursday due to rain, with the score tied at 5-5. Here is the box score from that game, which the Tourists won with a run in the bottom of the ninth.

Santucci struggled, but the relievers continued their great work. Ammons has struck out nine in eight scoreless innings, while Garcia has fanned 16 in 7.2 scoreless innings and earned three saves.

Willhoite homered for the second straight game. The 24-year-old is 5-for-14 in May with two homers and a double.

Dohm, 22, selected in the third round of last year’s draft out of Mississippi State, hadn’t given up more than two runs in any of his previous seven starts. He has 34 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched.

The Mets were held to two hits. Adderley is an 18-year-old from the Bahamas who stole 27 bases in 47 games in the Dominican Summer League last year. Guzman had one of the two hits and threw out a runner at home.
