Mets Option Brett Baty, Hayden Senger to Minors
The Mets listed on their transactions page Thursday that they are optioning Brett Baty and Hayden Senger to Triple-A Syracuse. Those moves coincide with the return of Jeff McNeil off the injured list and the expected return of Francisco Alvarez.

This move was certainly not a fait accompli, as Baty’s offensive output increased over the last couple weeks. The Mets now-versatile infielder hit his first home run of the season on Wednesday, an impressive two-run blast off of Zack Wheeler. That upper-deck shot had a 114 mph exit velocity, but it was too little too late for Baty, who underperformed overall in the onset of the season, slashing .204/.246/.352. It will be Baty’s third stint in the minors since making his big league debut in 2022.
It was a more positive major league debut for Senger, who performed admirably in his backup role. The identity of the third-string catcher for the Mets was a mystery heading into the season, but with Senger’s solid job as a backstop, the Mets now have a better foundation, in case Alvarez or Luis Torrens have to be sidelined in the future.
