N&N: Cade Smith slams door on “New York Yankees” again
Morning news and notes for April 23, 2025
There was plenty of news prior to lat night’s game, but let’s talk about the W first:
Tanner Bibee was on the mound, and on the first pitch of the game, he extended his MLB lead by allowing an 8th home run. Steven Kwan led off the bottom of the inning with a single. These things were not the same level of omen.
Bibee ended up pitching well after that, allowing a total of 5 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings.
Kwan added another hit later, but that first inning single was Cleveland’s only hit for a frighteningly long period of time.
After an NY insurance run in the top of the 6th, The Guardians scored 3 in the bottom.
This was enough for Timmy Herrin, Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith, who didn’t allow any runs.
Smith was closing for the 2nd straight day because Emmanuel Clase was unavailable for a physical and mental day off.
