The Latest Phillies Injury Update
Taijuan Walker came out feeling good after his bullpen session on April 22 in New York. He will likely make his next start on Friday, April 25 in Chicago. He left his last start on April 19 against the Marlins after just four innings with right shoulder stiffness.
- Brandon Marsh (right hamstring strain)
- Status: 10-day injured list
- The Phillies on Sunday, April 20 placed outfielder Brandon Marsh on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 17) with a right hamstring strain. He has not played since April 16 after tweaking his knee on a play in center field during the Giants series. Cal Stevenson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the roster.
- Manager Rob Thomson said on Tuesday, April 22 that Marsh ran the bases at 100%. He’ll have a recovery day on Wednesday and will likely begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He is eligible to return on April 27. — Last Updated on April 22 by Destiny Lugardo
- Ranger Suárez (low back stiffness)
- Status: 15-day injured list; Began rehab assignment on Thursday, April 10.
- Left-hander Ranger Suárez is on the injured list with back stiffness. He dealt with a back issue last year as well. Taijuan Walker has taken his place in the rotation for the time being.
- Suárez will make another rehab start on Tuesday, April 22 in Lehigh Valley. He’ll be stretched out to five innings and 75 pitches. He’ll make at least one more rehab start on Sunday, April 27 and be stretched to 85 pitches to start the year. This likely means Walker will make two more starts in the rotation, and that Suárez could be back for the beginning of the Diamondbacks series on May 2. — Last Updated April 22 by Destiny Lugardo
- Andrew Painter (Tommy John surgery)
- Status: Assigned to Clearwater Threshers; Could be pitching in the majors this summer
- Top prospect Andrew Painter should be in line to make his big-league debut in “July-ish” as Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski put it this offseason. He hasn’t pitched in a regular season game since injuring his elbow during the spring of 2023, but he should be ready to make an impact once he’s up, even in a limited workload.
- Painter, assigned to Low-A Clearwater, pitched three scoreless innings on Friday night, his second start of the year. He threw 49 pitches and allowed three hits and no runs. The right-hander struck out four hitters and walked none. His next start will be Thursday in Clearwater, per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Zolecki also notes Painter is scheduled for three more innings/50 pitches and that 120 innings may be his limit for the entire year. — Last Updated April 19 by Bailey Digh
- Weston Wilson (left oblique strain)
- Status: 10-day injured list, on rehab assignment
- Weston Wilson missed out on a chance to break camp with the Phillies as a bench bat and an option in the outfield and infield due to his strained oblique. He’s a good fit once he’s healthy as a right-handed hitter to help balance out a lefty-heavy club.
- Wilson began a rehab assignment for Single-A Clearwater on April 8. His assignment was transferred to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. In three games, Wilson is 3-for-14 with two walks. The Phillies have until April 28 to activate Wilson and put him on the major-league roster or option him to the minors. — Last updated April 19 by Bailey Digh
