Morning Briefing: Spencer Strider Placed Back on Injured List

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Braves have placed Spencer Strider on the 15-day injured list with a strained right hamstring. Strider made his first start in almost a year last Wednesday but sustained the hamstring injury before Monday’s game. Righty Michael Petersen has been called up to take Strider’s roster spot.

Francisco Lindor smacked two homers – a lead-off shot off Aaron Nola and a three-run homer off José Ruiz – and the Mets survived a four-run ninth inning by the Phillies to win their fifth straight game, 5-4. Jesse Winker collected two hits, including his first homer of the year. Tylor Megill allowed just one hit and worked around four walks with 10 strikeouts in 5 1/3 scoreless innings.

Griffin Canning (2-1, 3.43 ERA) will look to build on his strong outing from his last start against southpaw Cristopher Sánchez (2-0, 2.96 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

Speaking to the media Monday afternoon, Carlos Mendoza said that Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez will join Triple-A Syracuse this week. David Stearns added that Jose Siri is expected to need eight to ten weeks to recover from his fractured tibia. Stearns said that Dedniel Núñez is fully ramped up and could join the team soon, while Frankie Montas is still throwing from between 75 and 90 feet.

Jacob Reimer was named to MLB Pipeline‘s Prospect Team of the Week. Reimer went 8-for-19 with two homers in five games for the Cyclones.

The A’s are calling up 2024 first-round pick Nick Kurtz from Triple-A Las Vegas. The former Wake Forest standout is off to a rip-roaring start to 2025, batting .321/.385/.655 with seven homers and seven doubles in 97 plate appearances.

The Guardians have designated Triston McKenzie for assignment and called up righty Zak Kent. McKenzie posted a 2.96 ERA over 191 1/3 innings in 2022, but hasn’t been able to find success ever since suffering shoulder and elbow injuries in 2023. So far, McKenzie has been tagged for seven earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in 2025.

Dylan Moore and Fernando Tatis Jr. have been the AL and NL Players of the Week. Moore went 10-for-26 with three homers and five steals, while Tatis went 9-for-24 with four homers.

The Padres have placed Luis Arráez on the seven-day IL, and he’s currently in the concussion protocol. Arráez was carted off the field in Houston on Sunday when he collided with Mauricio Dubón at first base.
