Weekly Statistical Spotlight: Francisco Lindor
Francisco Lindor is raking! Over the last week, he notched his 250th career home run, his first walk-off home run as a Met, and a multi-home run game. Have yourself a week!
Lindor started the season off slow, going hitless in the opening series against the Astros. Since then, however, Lindor has recorded a hit in all but two games. From April 15 through April 21, he slashed .423/ .483/ .793 with an OPS of 1.276, including four home runs and seven RBIs. Below is a breakdown of Lindor’s approach at the plate for games over the last week.
Lindor had a very balanced attack from the plate. He tallied a hit off a changeup, cutter, fastball, knuckle curve, sinker, slider, and sweeper. Lindor stayed back on the offspeed pitches and went out to meet the faster pitches, with some of his fastest bat speeds of the season occurring over the last week. Almost all of Lindor’s hits for last week’s games were from the left side of the plate. He recorded 10 hits from the left side—four home runs and six singles. He also tallied one single—a laughable dribbler up the third base line—from the right side of the plate.
“When he’s getting his pitches in the strike zone, he’s not missing them and hitting them with authority,” Carlos Mendoza made sure to note. “He looks amazing at the plate,” Jesse Winker added after Monday’s two-homer game. “It’s really fun to watch.” Pete Alonso carried the offense through the first, but now Lindor is joining in on the fun.
Despite a rough start in the series against the Astros, Lindor is starting to find his groove. This is really great news for Mets fans given Lindor’s history with slow starts to the season. Lindor did a phenomenal job in the leadoff spot last year. Now with the added protection behind him, look for more productivity from Lindor in this spot in the lineup.
