The Latest Phillies Injury Update

  • Brandon Marsh (right hamstring strain)
  • Status: 10-day injured list
  • The Phillies on Sunday, April 20 placed outfielder Brandon Marsh on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 17) with a right hamstring strain. He has not played since April 16 after tweaking his knee on a play in center field during the Giants series. Cal Stevenson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the roster.
  • Manager Rob Thomson said Marsh’s status wasn’t improving, so the team decided to backdate an IL stint. Marsh will be on the road with the Phillies in New York. Once he is able to run again at 100 percent, the Phillies will have him get some at-bats in minor league games. “It’s as mild as it can be,” Thomson said.
  • Marsh’s injury is listed as a hamstring strain, but it’s related to the knee issue as the back of the knee and hamstring are connected. Marsh spent 12 days on the IL last year with a right hamstring strain. He went on a two-day minor league rehab assignment 10 days into his IL placement before returning to the big league club. — Last Updated on April 20 by Destiny Lugardo

  • Ranger Suárez (low back stiffness)
  • Status: 15-day injured list; Began rehab assignment on Thursday, April 10.
  • Left-hander Ranger Suárez is on the injured list with back stiffness. He dealt with a back issue last year as well. Taijuan Walker has taken his place in the rotation for the time being.
  • Suárez threw a bullpen session in Philadelphia on Friday. His next rehab start is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. — Last Updated on April 20 by Destiny Lugardo

  • Andrew Painter (Tommy John surgery)
  • Status: Assigned to Clearwater Threshers; Could be pitching in the majors this summer
  • Top prospect Andrew Painter should be in line to make his big-league debut in “July-ish” as Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski put it this offseason. He hasn’t pitched in a regular season game since injuring his elbow during the spring of 2023, but he should be ready to make an impact once he’s up, even in a limited workload.
  • Painter, assigned to Low-A Clearwater, pitched three scoreless innings on Friday night, his second start of the year. He threw 49 pitches and allowed three hits and no runs. The right-hander struck out four hitters and walked none. His next start will be Thursday in Clearwater, per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Zolecki also notes Painter is scheduled for three more innings/50 pitches and that 120 innings may be his limit for the entire year. — Last Updated April 19 by Bailey Digh

  • Weston Wilson (left oblique strain)
  • Status: 10-day injured list, will start rehab assignment on Tuesday
  • Weston Wilson missed out on a chance to break camp with the Phillies as a bench bat and an option in the outfield and infield due to his strained oblique. He’s a good fit once he’s healthy as a right-handed hitter to help balance out a lefty-heavy club.
  • Wilson began a rehab assignment for Single-A Clearwater on April 8. His assignment was transferred to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. In three games, Wilson is 3-for-14 with two walks. The Phillies have until April 28 to activate Wilson and put him on the major-league roster or option him to the minors. — Last updated April 19 by Bailey Digh
