Soto, Alonso Homer Without Judge’s Protection
Despite a 6-3 road loss to the Minnesota Twins, Pete Alonso and Juan Soto continued to produce at the plate for the Mets, each going yard.
Alonso, who signed a two-year, $54 million contract with the Mets this offseason, is off to a scorching start in 2025 and showed no signs of slowing down in Monday’s loss.
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Alonso launched a low fastball from Bailey Ober over the left-center field wall for his fifth home run of the season. The slugger raised his OPS to 1.195 and continues to be a driving force in the Mets’ offensive attack.
Alonso is up to 231 home runs in his quest to catch Darryl Strawberry’s 252 for the Mets’ team record.

The first baseman wasn’t done there, also ripping a double to right field in the eighth inning, his seventh double and 12th extra-base hit of the season.
Entering Wednesday, Alonso leads the National League with his 1.195 OPS and is second behind former Met Wilmer Flores with 20 RBIs.
As for Soto, the outfielder homered in the fourth inning with a 1-1 count, taking a low breaking ball over the right field wall. It was his second home run in as many days and his third of the season.
Despite a lot of recent chatter surrounding a quote in the New York Post, the Santo Domingo native has performed at a high caliber no matter who has been batting behind him. Soto is hitting .250/.392/.467 with more walks (14) than strikeouts (9) in his first 17 games with the Mets.
If Alonso and Soto can continue to stay hot offensively, the Mets’ ceiling this season remains sky-high.
