White Sox Minor League Update: April 4, 2025
A split day for the farm? Given recent seasons, we’ll take it
Charlotte Knights 7, Norfolk Tides 6 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
The Knights held on, for their fifth win in seven tries, despite two late runs in the eighth. Nick Nastrini had another poor start, but Jared Shuster bailed him out in relief by getting Charlotte through the top of the fifth all tied up — and the bats rewarded him for the effort, scoring four in the bottom of the fifth and handing Jared his third win of the season. Edgar Quero had three singles in five at-bats and nailed 1-of-2 runners stealing, edging him in front of teammate Kyle Teel for first backstop call-up.
Andre Lipcius, completely overlooked as a prospect but let me tell you he’s been on my radar from the second he was acquired takes offense honors, mashing the ball twice, including the first Knights grand slam of the season:

Birmingham Barons 6, Knoxville Smokies 4 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Well this one took a turn, as Barons No. 1 starter Noah Schultz took some lumps in his first true, big-boy start, getting through just four innings and still yet to finish five in a pro start; probably coincidental, but Schultz through 75 pitches and don’t be shocked if the White Sox continue to treat the powerful lefty with great caution.
However Schultz Fever buries the lede here, as the Barons struck for five right after Take Me Out to the Ballgame, stunning Knoxville (neé Tennessee) into an 0-for-6 to end the game. In fact, Gil Luna was so stoked at the turn of events (entering a game up 6-4 instead of down 4-1) he smote all three Smokies with swinging Ks in the eighth. Also: Mario Camilletti wants to play in Charlotte, as his debut game went 4-for-4 with a triple.
Rome Emperors 6, Winston-Salem Dash 2 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
No. 1 Dash starter Tanner McDougal took the ball for his second try at High-A, and was ... not great. Like Noah Schultz in Birmingham, McDougal was both wild and not missing bats. Not that the flaccid W-S offense stood a chance of bailing him out. Credit the offense for handing the ball to Tanner to open the game already with a 2-0 lead, as Caden Connor launched a two-run shot in his first at-bat of the season.

Hickory Crawdads 7, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 4 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Well, this one didn’t work out too well, either, as the Crawdads melted the Kanny bullpen, turning a 4-1 loss into a 7-4 crusher, at the expense of Carlton Perkins (blown save) and Pierce George (yeesh, oh boy). Shame, because Mason Moore, in his second career pro start, was pure butter (five innings, two hits, one unearned run, three walks and six Ks).
Lyle Miller-Green had six total bases in the game, including the first Kanny homer of the season. Dude pitches, too.
