Sports Briefs: San Rafael baseball wins 8-inning bash against Novato
San Rafael High scored in the bottom of the eighth after seven back-and-forth innings for a 13-12 home win against Novato in Wednesday’s MCAL baseball game. Junior Sebastian Chick was 4-for-5, with a homer and two doubles to drive in five runs, and scored three runs for the Bulldogs (8-6, 6-3 MCAL). Senior Cruz Wexler got on base in all five plate appearances, with a double and four walks, and scored three times.
Novato junior Cohen Garcia was 2-for-3 with a homer as he drove in two runs and scored twice.Junior Griffin Vorhaus doubled twice and drove in four runs for the Hornets (5-7, 2-5), while junior Julian Oliver was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs.
- Terra Linda rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Archie Williams as the Peregrine Falcons held on to win 9-5 Wednesday. SiEon Davis had a solid day at the plate, with a pair of hits, two RBIs and a run for the Trojans, who also got two hits from Alex Rambo.
Boys golf
Finn Henne shot a 1-over par 36 at StoneTree Golf Club on Wednesday to lead Marin Catholic past Terra Linda, 195-239. Evan Gutierrez shot a career-best 43 for the Trojans.
Boys tennis
Redwood swept singles en route to a 6-1 victory over Branson in Larkspur on Wednesday. The Giants got wins from Julian Zhang, Cal Fazal, Will Greenwald and Alejandro Puentes at Nos. 1-4 singles, respectively. Branson’s No. 2 doubles team of James Storell and Leighton Fraser held on for a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win.
Terra Linda swept Novato, 7-0, with singles wins from Rupert Atkins, Aryaveer Singh, Bhuven Medidi and Teddy Reibel. Atkins beat the Trojans’ Diego Seligman-Tovar, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Medidi held on for a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles Miles Harris.
Boys lacrosse
Tam held on for a 9-8 home victory over St. Margaret’s of San Juan Capistrano on Wednesday. Tam (8-4, 4-1 MCAL) travels to Rocklin on Saturday to play Whitney High in the last game before spring break.
Boys volleyball
San Rafael avenged an earlier loss with Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Marin Catholic. The Bulldogs (2-8 MCAL) have two weeks off before they face Novato (9-12, 5-6) on April 15. The Wildcats (3-8) are scheduled to host Tam on Friday.
- Redwood swept Novato, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14, on Tuesday as the Giants (14-3, 11-0 league) continued their run through the MCAL.
