Philippines Women's National Softball Team honoured with Women in Sports Award
The Philippines Women's National Softball Team received an important recognition at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Women in Sports Awards on 15 March at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Manila. Captains Charlotte Sales and Angelu Gabriel received the recognition on behalf of the team.
In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), through its Women in Sports (WIS) program, recognised 140 outstanding female Filipino athletes, coaches and sports leaders at the 2025 All-Women Sports Awards.
Jean Henri Lhuillier, president of the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines, expressed his pride in the latest accomplishment of the team. "The Blu Girls have consistently shown the world the talent and resilience of Filipina athletes. Their journey is a testament to their hard work, discipline, and commitment to excellence," he said, reported The Manila Times. "I have no doubt that they will continue to inspire future generations to pursue their passion for sports, proving that Filipinas can excel on the world stage."
Ranked No. 19 in the WBSC Women's Softball World Ranking, the Philippines (known as the Blu Girls) finished just short of a ticket to the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals, finishing in fourth place in Group C.
"By breaking barriers and defying expectations, they serve as role models for aspiring athletes across the country, proving that with determination, hard work, and the right support, Filipinas can rise to the top of the global sports arena," Lhuillier added.
After three consecutive fourth-place finishes, the Philippines are aiming the earn their first medal at the Asian Games Aichi - Nagoya 2026. In 2022, they lost the bronze medal game against Chinese Taipei 3-2.
