II Youth Baseball5 Asia Cup opens in Taipei City

The opening ceremony of the II Youth Baseball5 Asia Cup took place at Taipei City’s Xinyi District “Shianti Plaza,” the busiest shopping area in Taipei City (TPE). Seven teams representing Chinese Taipei; Korea; Japan; Malaysia; Thailand; Hong Kong, China and first-time participant Iraq will play 26 games, including championship and bronze medal games during the following four days.

The top three finishers will book a ticket to the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2025 in Mexico.

World Baseball Softball Confederation Secretary General Beng Choo Low welcomed all teams in her opening remarks: “We are delighted to be back in Taipei and congratulate Chinese Taipei on qualifying for the World Baseball Classic. I was very confident when I asked the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association and Baseball Federation Asia to host the Baseball5 Asia Cup, as this would be a very important task to carry out. This tournament is very important because the top three finishers will also qualify for this year’s WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup.

“I am grateful for the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) and Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA), not only for our fantastic partnership but also for (WBSC Baseball Vice President & BFA President) Jefferey Koo’s tremendous support.

“This is a new, important discipline, and we spent five years for the sport to be represented in the Youth Olympics. I am also grateful for Taipei City, and the sponsors, for carrying out the successful tournament here in Taipei.”

CTBA Vice President Hua-Wei Lin also delivered his remarks: “We’d like to welcome all the teams coming to Taipei City for the tournament. The Baseball5 game was born on the streets of Cuba and now let’s make it popular worldwide.”
