Luis Ortiz struggles vs. Padres

By no means is it time to start worrying about Luis Ortiz, spring training is not about results, it’s about working on specific areas that will help you be ready for the start of the season. The stat line for Ortiz in the Guardians loss to the Padres sure looked ugly yesterday, 4 earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched, but he also had 5 strikeouts and 8 swings and misses, which is big for him. I don’t think he pitched as bad as that line would indicate, but regardless this has been a rocky start to spring training for him.

Brayan Rocchio and Kyle Manzardo both had 2 hit games to continue their impressive springs thus far.

The Guardians released their first roster reduction of the spring: Optioning RHP Franco Aleman, RHP Nic Enright and RHP Daniel Espino to AAA Columbus, along with reassigning OF Chase DeLauter and OF George Valera to Minor League camp.

The Guardians play the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, March 9th, at 4:05 pm et. It doesn’t appear to have a TV broadcast, but you will be able to listen in on the Guardians Radio Network.
