Report: Brewers Sign Jose Quintana
Robert Murray of FanSided reported the Brewers signed former Met Jose Quintana to a one-year deal on Monday.
It was as little as a week ago rumors sparked the Mets and Quintana might reunite after injuries to Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas took a toll on the Mets’ rotation. However, the team felt comfortable with their internal options, the most notable ones being Tylor Megill, Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn. Instead, the Brewers pick up a former friend.
Quintana delivered a quietly productive season in 2024. In 31 starts for the Mets, the southpaw went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA in just over 170 innings pitched. He struck out 135 batters, walked 63 and finished the season with a 105+ ERA. In the postseason, Quintana made three starts, pitching to a 3.14 ERA in over 14 innings. Notably, the 36-year-old pitched in the winner-takes-all Game 3 of the NLWC against the Brewers, going six scoreless innings, allowing four hits one walk and five strikeouts.

The lefty’s sinker produced a 13-run value, his most productive pitch during 2024. Quintana’s sinker ranked seventh in all of baseball in terms of run value behind Zack Wheeler (18), Paul Skenes (18), Logan Webb (17), José Soriano (16), Ryan Walker (14) and Brady Singer (13). In his career, Quintana holds a lifetime 3.74 ERA, 3.70 FIP and 3.92 xFIP in 359 games. His 31.7 bWAR ranks 12th amongst active pitchers.
For the Mets, it’s one less external option with Quintana off the board. However, with the emergence of Brandon Sproat and even Blade Tidwell this spring, along with other minor league and non-roster invitee options, they may continue to sit pat.
