Acuña Leaves Game After Getting Hit By Pitch

0 10

Luisangel Acuña left Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays after he was hit in the left arm by a Shane McClanahan pitch in the second inning. Manager Carlos Mendoza said after the game that so far the trainers think X-rays were unnecessary.

“Talking to the trainers, they are not too concerned,” Mendoza said. “Got him in the elbow. Got him pretty good obviously. You know he had that pad there on that left elbow and he got him good. So we’ll check him again tomorrow and see what we got but as of right now the trainers are telling me that he should be fine.”

Acuña appeared to be grabbing at the area near his elbow after getting hit. He stayed in the game and stole second, but was replaced by Jett Williams for defense.

The 22-year-old infielder was a spark when he filled in last September after Francisco Lindor missed time with an injury. He hit three home runs and slashed .308/.325/.641 over 14 games. He entered this spring battling for a reserve role and was 2-for-10 entering Saturday.
