Overview
Christopher Suero has impressed in his first three seasons in the Mets’ organization after signing during the 2022 international period.
As an 18-year-old in 2022, he slashed .204/.386/.306 across 38 games and 127 plate appearances in the Dominican Summer League. Suero hit .281/.422/.469 the following year in 2023, albeit over a small sample size of 83 plate appearances in the Florida Complex League.
Suero kicked off his 2024 campaign on a high note, hitting well enough with Low-A St. Lucie to quickly earn a promotion to High-A Brooklyn, where he continued to excel. In 87 games for the Cyclones, he logged 11 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. He also posted 45 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He’s become an under-the-radar prospect who has the potential to break out if he continues to develop.
Suero’s speed is perhaps his standout trait, as he stole 20 bases last year, and he showcased impressive plate discipline with a 13.6% walk rate. He’s spent a majority of his time as a pro at catcher, playing 60 games there last season, though he also appeared in 28 and 23 contests at left field and first base, respectively.
In May 2024, FanGraphs’ Eric Longenhagen wrote that he, “has simple in-the-box footwork and a short, low-hand load, the combination of which allows Suero to be on time consistently. His swing is a little uphill and he can’t always get on top of high pitches, but the hit/power combo here is enough to project Suero as a well-rounded backup.”
2025 Outlook
Suero will look to carry his momentum into 2025. After impressing at High-A in 2024, it’s likely that he’ll start out there there with a promotion to Double-A Binghamton looming somewhere down the line depending on how he comes out of the gate.
