Alice Lloyd College Announces Naming of The Gatton Winston Scholars Program

Alice Lloyd College is proud to announce that its prestigious Caney Scholars Program will now be known as The Gatton Winston Scholars Program in honor of the generosity and legacy of The Bill Gatton Foundation. This renaming follows a historic $10 million endowment gift from the foundation in November 2024, the largest endowment gift in the College’s history.

This transformational gift will significantly strengthen ALC’s mission of providing postgraduate opportunities for young leaders who are dedicated to returning to and serving the Appalachian region. The Gatton Winston Scholars Program will continue to provide essential financial support for ALC graduates pursuing advanced degrees, ensuring they have the resources to further their education and make a meaningful impact on their communities.

The program’s renaming honors both Mr. Bill Gatton’s unwavering support for education in Appalachia and Mr. Frank Winston, Mr. Gatton’s long-time counsel, a devoted trustee of The Bill Gatton Foundation, and a good and trusted friend.

In addition to funding the scholars program, this endowment will support Gatton Winston Hall, a residence hall in Lexington, Kentucky, that serves as a home for ALC graduates attending graduate or professional school at The University of Kentucky.
