Yankees Sign Lefty Reliever Tim Hill
The Yankees re-signed lefty Tim Hill to a one-year, $2.85 million contract that includes a team option for 2026, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Mets were reportedly interested in adding the 34-year-old to their bullpen, which is heavy on right-handers.
Hill went 4-0 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.43 WHIP last season and was excellent for the Yanks after coming over from the White Sox at the trade deadline. In 44 innings for New York, his ERA was 2.05 and his WHIP was 1.02. A rare pitch-to-contact guy, he fanned just 18.
The only quality, proven lefty in the Mets bullpen is A.J. Minter, who the Mets signed to a two-year, $22 million pact last month. The Mets also have Danny Young and Matt Gage on the roster.
The Twins took another lefty reliever off the board Tuesday, signing Danny Coulombe, pending a physical, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Andrew Chafin, who pitched to a 3.51 ERA and had 70 strikeouts in 56.1 innings for the Tigers and Rangers last season, might be the best lefty who remains unsigned. Ryan Yarbrough (98.2 innings, 3.19 ERA) and Jalen Beeks (70 IP, 4.50 ERA) are also available.
