Mets Sign A.J. Minter to Two-Year Deal

The New York Post’s Joel Sherman has reported that the New York Mets signed left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to a two-year deal worth $22 million, pending a physical, that also includes an opt-out after the 2025 season.

With Pete Alonso potentially on his way out of New York after the two sides couldn’t agree on a new deal, recent reports had indicated that the club was planning on aggressively pursuing relief help. Fellow southpaw Tanner Scott was floated as a possible target in free agency, though the New York Post’s Mike Puma has reported that the Mets likely will no longer pursue him. Instead, they came away with Minter and now have a premier left-hander that will slot in at the backend of their bullpen.

The 31-year-old had spent his entire career with the Atlanta Braves up to this point. A second-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, Minter made his debut in the big leagues during the 2017 campaign and posted an ERA of 3.28 over 384 appearances with the team.

He had his 2024 season cut short due to a hip injury that required surgery in August, though he still managed to record a 2.62 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 34 1/3 innings.

Minter will reunite with former Braves teammate Danny Young to form New York’s duo of left-handed bullpen arms on the 40-man roster, and the team may still continue to seek out additional reinforcements in the coming weeks.
