Report: Mets Have ‘Checked In” On Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s Availability
As the New York Mets and Pete Alonso continue their game of chicken, Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets have “checked in” on Toronto Blue Jays pending free agent Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Martino then categorizes the Mets and Vladdy as a fit that remains in the “fantasy baseball” realm.
That said, as the pitchers and catchers’ first workout (Feb. 12) is now less than a month away, the Mets are surely looking at players who could help replace the power of Alonso if he signs elsewhere.
The 25-year-old Guerrero enters his final season under contract with the Blue Jays coming off a big-time 2024 season. Vlad hit .323/.396/.544 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, 165 wRC+ and a 5.5 fWAR.
Vlad’s younger brother, Vladi, played in his first season of pro ball last year after signing with the Mets for a $117,000 signing bonus.
