Mets Sign Travis Swaggerty and Yonny Hernández to Minor League Deals

The Mets signed outfielder Travis Swaggerty and infielder Yonny Hernández to minor league deals on Wednesday, Mike Mayer of MMO reports.

Swaggerty, 27 posted an .800 OPS while playing for the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association. A former first-round pick, he spent the 2018 through the 2023 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was picked up as a free agent by the White Sox in 2024 and later by the Los Angeles Dodgers before being released and playing the 2024 season with the Monarchs. He also has five major league games under his belt with Pittsburgh, going 1-for-9.

Hernández, 26 split the season between Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds of the Brewers’ organization and the Long Island Ducks. In 81 games at Triple-A in 2024, Hernández batted .241/.333/.309, with two home runs, three triples, seven doubles, 13 steals, and 32 RBIs.

The Mets also announced that they re-signed right-handed pitcher Brian Metoyer. Metoyer has not played in a game since 2022, spending the 2023 and 2024 seasons on the injured list. In four minor league seasons, he is 6-5 with a 4.48 ERA over the course of 57 games. He has struck out 114 batters in 84 1/3 innings pitched.
