Morning Briefing: MLB Releases Study About Pitchers’ Arm Injuries
Good morning, Mets fans!
A study conducted by Major League Baseball found specific factors that add to higher chance of injury. Unsurprisingly, the injuries are due to an emphasis on velocity and “stuff.” The study loosely proposed rules to help prevent these injuries, but according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, “the study was just the first step” in a longer process.
Jeff Passan, also of ESPN, notes that injuries are increasingly impacting younger, aspiring pitchers. Passan’s ESPN article quotes the study. “The risks of arm injury due to overuse largely have been ignored in favor of year-round travel baseball and showcases (a longstanding concern with amateur baseball that experts view as only worsening in recent years),” the report says.
