Report: Blue Jays Interested in Luis Severino
The Blue Jays are showing interest in Luis Severino, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. Toronto has already been linked to Juan Soto, but Nicholson-Smith adds that they are also interested in Max Fried, Anthony Santander, and Alex Bregman. Blue Jays CEO Mark Shapiro said back in October that he expects the team’s 2025 payroll to be similar to what it was this past year.
Severino recently declined the $21.05 million qualifying offer he received from the Mets. He bounced back nicely from a rocky 2023, posting a 3.91 ERA and 3.88 xERA with 161 strikeouts against 60 walks in 182 innings. He continued to be effective in the postseason, tossing 16 2/3 innings with a 3.24 ERA over three starts.
If Severino opts to sign elsewhere, the Mets would receive a compensatory draft pick after the completion of the fourth round.
