Mets Have Big Weekend Plans in Philly

After a thrilling Wild Card series victory, the New York Mets get Friday off before Game 1 of the NLDS, then head to Philadelphia Saturday to face Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, who hasn’t pitched since last Saturday.

Game 1 will air on FOX and the first pitch is scheduled for 4:08 p.m. ET. The Mets have yet to announce a starter. Possible candidates include David Peterson and Tylor Megill. Luis Severino pitched Tuesday, so if he got the nod it would be on short rest.

Wheeler (16-7, 2.57 ERA) faced the Mets once this season on Sept. 22 and gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk over seven innings. The 34-year-old ex-Met struck out eight but took the hard-luck loss after giving up a tiebreaking home run to Brandon Nimmo in the sixth inning.

Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 4:08 p.m. ET. and will air on FS1. The Phillies have not announced a starter beyond Game 1, but Aaron Nola, Ranger Suárez, and Cristopher Sánchez will be expected to go in some order.

The National League gets the day off on Monday. Games 3 and 4 (if necessary) will be played at Citi Field on Tuesday and Wednesday with times to be determined. They will air on FOX or FS1. A deciding Game 5 would come on Friday, Oct. 11 if necessary, with game time and whether it airs on FOX or FS1 to be determined.

The Mets have never played the Phillies in the postseason. The Phillies edged the Mets in the season series, 7-6, though the Mets won three of four games in their last showdown against Philadelphia.
