Núñez Out For Season With Flexor Injury

0 3

Reliever Dedniel Núñez, a key piece of the bullpen in his rookie year, is out for the remainder of the season with a flexor injury in his right arm, manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters in Philadelphia on Friday.

Núñez, 28, pitched to a 2.31 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over 35 innings this year. The right-hander was 2-0 with one save and 48 strikeouts.

He was initially placed on the injured list on July 26 with a pronator strain in his right arm. He returned in San Diego against the Padres on Aug. 24, only to make one appearance before being placed on the IL once again with right forearm tightness on Aug. 29.

“With Núñez, he’s got a flexor injury,” Mendoza said. “He’s done for the year. So we won’t see Núñez back this year.”

Núñez signed with the Mets as an international free agent in 2016. He was later selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft. He underwent Tommy John Surgery in March of 2021, causing the Giants to return him to New York in November of that year.
