Mets Minors Recap: Morabito Sets Single Season Hit Record With Brooklyn

Nick Morabito put an exclamation mark on his already impressive 2024 season. In just 94 games, the righty bat recorded his 110 hit on the season, setting the single-season record with the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Drew Gilbert is making up for all his lost time at the beginning of the year as his power surge continued on Friday night. The 23-year-old launched his seventh long ball in his last 15 games, bringing his season tally up to 8 in only 41 Triple-A games.

Triple-A

Syracuse made a miraculous comeback after falling down 8-0 in the third inning, storming back to score 11 unanswered runs to steal a Friday night win. Drew Gilbert left the yard for the third time in his last five games, seven in his last 15. This late-season power surge is an excellent sign for Mets fans after Gilbert missed a large portion of the 2024 season and came back a bit sluggish at the plate.

The RailRiders teed off on Suarez, who was making his second Triple-A start–dropping nine hits, three home runs, and eight total runs in his five innings on the mound. However, the bullpen medley of Orze, Hejka, and Hartwig left the game scoreless and hitless in the final three innings, allowing Syracuse to make the big comeback.

Double-A

Jackson’s 18th homer of the year was the lone bright spot for the Ponies in their 9=3 trouncing against Somerset. The offense collected only four hits and went 1-for-11 in RISP situations.

After switching to focusing on pitching in late June, McLean has been dialed in during his starts. While not going deep into games (he has gone into the sixth inning twice this season), McLean has boosted his strikeouts and dropped his average against. Walks and homers remain an issue, resulting in crooked numbers in his starts, but he looks like a helium candidate in his first full season of solely pitching in 2025.

High-A

In just 94 games, Morabito broke the Brooklyn Cyclones’ single-season records for hits (110) and stolen bases (48). Morabito’s incredible leadoff/on-base skills will translate as he rises within the Mets Farm System, but his power potential will continue to be questioned as he most likely begins the 2025 season in Double-A Binghamton.

Wenninger has raised some eyebrows down the stretch of the High-A season, posting a great month of August and arguably his best professional start on Friday. The University of Illinois alum slung his fourth double-digit strikeout game of the year and has 37 K’s in his last six starts.

Low-A

Clearwater Threshers (63-62) 3, St. Lucie Mets (44-83) 2

Another relatively quiet night for the St Lucie offense, with Houck driving in the Mets’ only runs via a 6th-inning two-RBI single. Houck has had a tough first full season of pro ball–he has struck out a ton (168 strikeouts to 48 walks) and has made 29 fielding errors.

• RHP Cristofer Gomez (4.39 ERA) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K

21-year-old Gomez has allowed only one earned run since August 6th (8.2 innings).
