Gamethread: White Sox at Orioles

Rough day to try to end the losing streak

So. The White Sox have lost ten in a row, matching the 1965 Mets as well as the 1962 version the Sox are hellbent on overtaking in total losses, that record of 120 sitting just 13 away.

And now they face Baltimore. In Camden Yards. Not good.

Trying to stop the bleeding will be Chris Flexen, which would not appear to be the ideal choice, since the Sox have lost 20 straight games he started. Sometimes that’s been Flexen’s fault, ofttimes not, but it’s still a heck of a situation, one that leaves him with the unusual combination of stats of a 2-13 record and 5.29 ERA but 1.3 bWAR, which must be based on the fact he’s eaten 134 innings.

The Orioles aren’t giving the Sox any break today, either, since they’re starting many-year All-Star Corbin Burnes, who comes into the game 12-7 with a 3.23 ERA. Burnes won’t have to face Andrew Vaughn, who’s zip for his last 22 (albeit with one that was brought back into the park by Travis Jankowski), or Luis Robert, Jr., who’s had four singles in his last 27 at-bats. Corey Julks, who’s 3-4 with a homer vs. Burnes gives some offensive hope.

Flexen has no such luck with many Orioles sitting out the game. They’ve mostly hit him well, except, surprisingly, Adley Rutschman, whose 0-for-8 with three K’s.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 Central. Usual broadcast suspects.
