The Mariners close up the series with the Angels and try to salvage a series win

After a heartbreaker last night, the Mariners try to salvage a series win against the Angels, a lousy team that has nonetheless given them fits this season for reasons unclear.

Lineups:

The Angels will have yet another rookie pitcher making his big-league debut, and one with two first names at that in Caden Dana. He sounds super fun!

News:

The Mariners celebrated roster expansion day by bringing back RHP Eduard Bazardo and LHP Jhonathan Díaz. After sending down LHP Gabe Speier to bring up INF Luis Urías the other day, they had space to add two pitchers.

Today in Mariners history:

  • 1985 - Mike Moore tossed his 8th complete game and second shutout of the year a the Mariners blanked the Baltimore Orioles, 6-0, at Memorial Stadium. Gorman Thomas drove in four runs with a pair of homers, and scored three runs.
  • 1990- Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. play in the same line-up for the first time against the Kansas City Royals. Sr. played left, batting second while Jr. was in CF batting third. The Griffeys had back-to-back singles in the first inning and the Mariners went on to win 5-2.
  • 1992 - Edgar Martinez is 3x4 with a double, HR, 2 RBIs and scores three runs vs the Boston Red Sox. Martinez finishes the month of August hitting .395 with 16 doubles.
  • 1997 - The Mariners win their first game ever in a National League park, with a 3-1 win in 10 innings at Chavez Ravine against the Dodgers. The win breaks an 0-7 interleague play start by Seattle.
  • 2021 – Abraham Toro clubs game-winning grand slam off of Kendall Graveman, the player he was traded for, in a 4-0 win against the Astros…became the first player in MLB history to hit a grand slam off a pitcher he was traded for earlier that season.
