Gamethread: Mets at White Sox

Looking to avoid an all-time loss mark, a 22nd sweep, and an unprecedented third losing streak of 10-plus games, all on one Sunday!

There’s a lot of bad stuff loaded up today, including a possible all-time single season loss mark for the White Sox (107), 22nd sweep of the Sox this year (against one sweep, thanks Tampa!) and a possible third double-figure losing streak of 2024 (yes, before this season, the White Sox had never even had TWO losing streaks of 10 games or more in the same summer).

As for personnel additions — the White Sox (and every other MLB team) got to add TWO whole players in September’s “roster expansion” — Brett has that covered here. Jairo’s call-up has some merit, but I will remain cynical and say he’s the guy simply because Chris Getz promised at the time of the trade he’d play in the majors in 2024.

No DeLoach today. And no Brooks Baldwin, who went from everyday, play-through-slump blue chip to end of the bench seemingly quick.

If you’re watching the game today solely to see some history and somehow the White Sox disappoint, worry not. The club heads to Baltimore for three right after the game, and there’s no way they’re escaping Camden Yards without a 107th loss, even with Craig Kimbrel as O’s closer.

Today gets going at 1:10 p.m. CT, at all the usual spots.
