Looking to avoid the sweep

Good morning A’s fans! After dropping the first two contests against the Brewers the Athletics have their backs up against the wall hoping to avoid the sweep. They’ll wrap up their home stand today and it would be great to hit the road with a win over the NL Central leading Brewers under our belts.

Oakland will be rocking with rookie right-hander Joey Estes in today’s finale. He’s on a roll right now as he’s sporting a nifty 2.82 ERA over his past seven outings. We’ve seen a ton of growth from the young hurler here in 2024 but fans will be hoping to see him pitch through the finish line here in his rookie campaign.

Backing him up on offense today:

Outfielder Daz Cameron gets rewarded for his 2-hit game last night and is in left field for the A’s today. Rookie infielder Darell Hernaiz is back in the starting nine at the hot corner but other than that it’s more of the same lineup that put up five runs in yesterday’s contest. We’d gladly take five runs today.

Those bats will be facing a familiar face in former Oakland starter Frankie Montas. The former ace of the pitching staff has bounced around a bit since his time with the Green & Gold. He missed essentially all of last year with the Yankees before signing with the Cincinnati Reds this off-season. A midseason trade put him in the thick of the playoff race with Milwaukee and that seems to have lit a fire under him. In his four starts with his new club he’s got a pristine 2.57 ERA while providing the Brewers with some stability atop their rotation. In what will be his final time pitching at the Coliseum, today would be a good day to skew that ERA of his and put up some serious damage against someone we used to root for.

How Milwaukee will line up for today’s series finale:

Thank you Brewers, but we’ll leave the Do Not Disturb tag on the door handle for today. Let’s go A’s!
