Mets starting pitcher Paul Blackburn departed his start against the San Diego Padres on Friday night after a line drive hit him on his right wrist.

With Jackson Merrill on first and no outs in the bottom of the third inning, Padres right fielder David Peralta smoked a slider right back up the middle, which caught a piece of Blackburn’s wrist as he attempted to shield his face. The ball deflected to Jose Iglesias, who threw Peralta out at first while Merrill reached second base safely.

Blackburn, who had visible swelling around the affected area, was pulled from the game after a trainer examined him out near the mound. He was replaced by right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek.

The team has yet to provide an update on Blackburn’s status. The 30-year-old right-hander was tagged for 10 hits and five earned runs over 2 1/3 innings in his fifth outing for the Mets since arriving via trade from the Oakland Athletics.
