Game 129: Reds at Pirates (6:40 PM ET) - Farmer vs. Falter

You may have had on your calendar that today’s starter for the Cincinnati Reds in their game against division-rival Pittsburgh was slated to be Andrew Abbott. That’s not wrong, that’s just outdated.

Unfortunately, the Reds lost yet another member of their would-be rotation to the injured list on Friday, as Cincinnati placed Abbott on the 15-day IL with a strained throwing shoulder.

As the above tweet from the team indicates, RHP Alan Busenitz was called up from AAA Louisville to help round out the pitching staff in the meantime. With Abbott down, the Reds turned to Buck Farmer to get the start tonight in what will surely end up a game that taxes the entire bullpen pretty heavily.

So it goes for the Reds these days.

First pitch in this pivotal game is set for 6:40 PM ET, and I use the word ‘pivotal’ here because the Reds pretty well need to win every single game available to them at this juncture to keep any postseason dream alive.
