Minors Recap: Nolan McLean Dazzles In Rumble Ponies Win

0 2

Nolan McLean had his best outing in Double-A so far and Syracuse came from behind in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off win on Tuesday.

Triple-A

Durham Bulls (57-64) 2, Syracuse Mets (66-52) 3

BOX SCORE

Syracuse struggled on Tuesday, only managing four hits with three of them being solo home runs. DJ Stewart hit the deciding walk-off shot in the ninth inning after Eddie Rosario hit the tying solo shot one batter before him

  • RHP Dom Hamel (6.51 ERA) 5 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K  (59 of 88 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Dedniel Nunez (1.29 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K
  • RHP Eric Orze (3.44 ERA)  1 2/3 IP, 1 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Alex Young (1.75 ERA) 1 1/3 IP, 1 BB

Dom Hamel had a second consecutive solid start, even if this start wasn’t quite as long as his previous start. The bullpen would pitch the last four innings and only allow one hit, with Dedniel Nunez pitching a solid inning in his rehab, reaching 97 MPH with his fastball.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (58-54) 4, Reading Fightin Phils (51-63) 2

BOX SCORE

Ryan Clifford drew yet another walk on the day and Alex Ramirez had a two-RBI triple. Ramirez is protected on the Mets 40-man roster, so this seems to be the last push in the regular season to prove he is worth the spot.

  • RHP Nolan McLean (4.48 ERA) 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 5 K (53 of 75 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Trey McLoughlin (2.01 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K
  • LHP Daniel Juarez (5.23 ERA) 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 1 H
  • RHP TJ Shook (1.59 ERA)  1 1/3 IP, 2 H, 3 K

Nolan McLean was outstanding in his longest outing of the season at any level, going six innings only allowing one run on four hits. The bullpen was solid and TJ Shook earned yet another save, striking out three in his one and one-third innings of work.

High-A

Brooklyn Cyclones (56-59) 9, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (63-52) 10

BOX SCORE

The Cyclones offense had three home runs on the day but that would not be enough to overcome some poor defense and a bullpen collapse.

  • RHP Jack Wenninger (2.90 ERA) 5 2/3 IP, 6 R (2 ER), 6 H, 1 BB, 6 K (59 of 86 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Alan Perdomo (3.18 ERA) 0 IP, 2 ER, 1 H, 1 BB
  • RHP Jordany Ventura (3.79 ERA) 3 1/3 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 3 H, 3 K, 1 HR allowed

Jack Wenninger had another great outing, but his defense ultimately let him down. Wenninger allowed 2 earned runs, but 4 unearned runs also came across the plate on his watch.

Low-A

Palm Beach Cardinals (70-43) 5, St. Lucie Mets (39-74) 2

BOX SCORE

St. Lucie had eight hits on the day, with only one going for extra bases. Mets 2024 first-round pick Carson Benge continues showing his plate discipline and ability to put the ball in play.

St. Lucie had a bullpen day today, and Kyle Crick began his rehab assignment by allowing one run in one-third of an inning on zero hits, walking two. Every St. Lucie pitcher would allow an earned run and walk a batter.
