News and Notes: What is There Left to Say?

Cleveland Guardians v Minnesota Twins - Game Two

News and Notes for Saturday, August 10th, 2024

The Cleveland Guardians were swept in a double-header by the Minnesota Twins to lose their sixth and seventh in a row and the vultures are circling.

Everyone who said this team was playing at an unsustainable level and would crash is looking prescient.

Everyone saying manager Stephen Vogt wouldn't be able to get his team to finish strong like Tito teams did is feeling quite justified.

Everyone who hated the Lane Thomas trade is proudly pronouncing, "I told you so" as he went 0 for 5 between the two games.

Everyone who has questioned why Jose Ramirez is playing DH so often is saying "See!?!?" as Jose went 0 for 4 in game 1 and his wRC+ as a DH this season went to 49.

Everyone who insisted the Guardians had to find a way to significantly upgrade their starting pitching was likely chagrined to see Alex Cobb leave sinkers up in the zone and give up four runs.

Everyone who felt Brayan Rocchio was turning things around in game one saw him make two throwing errors in game two and go 0 for 4 and now feels silly.

Really, the whole Guardians fanbase feels silly for believing in this team right now and it is up to the Guardians to prove them wrong starting at 7:10 PM EST tonight. It's easy to have all these doom and gloom takes right now. It's hard to be optimistic when your team loses seven straight and can't win a game in a double-header to save their lives.

I still believe this is a good team. I still think they'll figure this out.

But, hey, it's now or never, folks. It's also a good time to stay off the internet until they do figure it out.

Around MLB:

At least the Royals lost?

Also, Kyle Manzardo went 0 for 4 with 3 K's for Columbus making it a bad time to be calling for his promotion to help this team, I suppose.
