Mariners Game #116 Preview: 8/8/24, DET at SEA

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe sh*t

Now well past the halfway point of the season, our loveable Seattle Baseball club remains as confounding, inconsistent, and downright frustrating as always. Befuddling performances followed by the glory of monstrous blowouts or exciting walk-offs have been the theme of this Mariners team this year. Hopefully, this team can do a full pirouette off of the disappointment in the last two times out and right the ship heading into the final third of the season.

Lineups:

Both teams seem to be running out a bit of a rotated lineup tonight, which means it may come down to the pitching. Though Woo has only relatively recently returned to the Mariners rotation, the 24-year-old Cal-Poly product looks to continue his great run since being reinstated off the IL in July. On the other side of the diamond, Brenan Hanifee has struggled more this season, but I’ve said that before, and the Mariners have had a habit this year of letting average pitchers come in and look like world-beaters. With this being a bullpen game for Detroit, we’re not likely to see Hanifee for too long. Before the game Scott Servais said that “when you run that many pitchers out there, you will find one or two guys who have an off night and you need to take advantage of that.”
