Mets Minors Players of July: Luke Ritter Shines

Over the course of July, the Mets’ farm system had excellent individual performances throughout each level. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies finished the month with a 14-9 record, which featured a 10-game win streak and a six-game sweep over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Toronto Blue Jays’ Double-A Affiliate

The Syracuse Mets finished the month with a 12-12 record while the Brooklyn Cyclones finished 11-12. In Low-A, the St. Lucie Mets’ 7-15 July record brought their overall record to 32-65.

Let’s examine a few of the top performers at each level of the Mets’ system this past month.

Triple-A

Luke Ritter had a great month at the plate, slashing .325/.454/.558/1.012 with four home runs, two doubles, two triples and 19 RBIs. He now owns a .880 OPS on the season with 21 homers in 94 games.

Mike Vasil was Syracuse’s best starter in July, recording a 3.38 ERA in 32 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out 27 in five starts to go with a 2-2 record.

Double-A

MMO Mike Mayer’s No. 4 prospect Ryan Clifford continues to mash the baseball. In the month of July alone he had eight doubles, four home runs, and 13 RBIs while slashing .277/.355/.518/.873. Clifford has a team-leading .847 OPS with the Rumble Ponies and has gone deep 13 times in 59 games.

High-A

Karell Paz has put together one of the more impressive months in the Mets’ farm system. The 24-year old is slashing .391/.429/.489/.918 with four doubles, two triples and four RBIs. He posted seven stolen bases in 16 games on top of that impressive line.

Jonathan Pintaro was recognized in the Mets Minors Weekly Report and continues to shine on the bump. Pintaro recorded an impressive 0.49 ERA in four games while striking out 19 for the month. It’s a small sample size, but the 26-year old has improved his season ERA to 2.50 in 9 games to go with 35 strikeouts.

Low-A

19-year old shortstop Boston Baro has been one of the few positive performers down in St. Luice. Baro is slashing .338/.415/.400/.815 with five doubles, 14 runs and 12 RBIs over 21 games. His season OPS moved to .762 while he has recorded 36 RBIs on the year.

Franklin Gomez finished off a productive July with a 3.20 in four starts. The 19-year old struck out 18 in 19 2/3 innings while lowering his season ERA to 4.04.

Florida Complex League 

Jeremy Rodriguez provided quality at-bats in the month of July, slashing .313/.400/.438/.838. The 18-year old shortstop hit three doubles and one home run with two RBIs. Rodriguez also led the team with six stolen bases in 13 games.

Irving Cota earned himself a promotion to St. Lucie with dominant performances in July. The right-hander posted gave up zero runs in 7 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts. Over 11 games this season, Cota has a 4-0 record, a 3.26 ERA and 45 strikeouts across 30 1/3 innings.

Dominican Summer League 

Jose Guevara had a productive three starts in July, posting a 1.80 ERA in 15 innings. The 19-year old struck out 15 over that span, which brings his season total to 45 in 37 1/3 innings to go with a 1.45 ERA in 8 games.

Edward Lantigua showed promise at the plate, slashing .545/.615/.636/1.251 in four games. Over that span, Lantigua had six hits in 11 at bats, which included one double and one RBI.
