Huascar Brazobán Activated; Paul Blackburn to Start on Friday

The Mets made a series of roster moves before their 1:10 p.m. ET game on Wednesday with the Twins. Right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán has been added to the active roster, and right-handed reliever Tyler Zuber and left-handed reliever Matt Gage have been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets also announced that recently acquired starter Paul Blackburn will make his team debut on Friday against the Angels. Blackburn made his final start for the A’s against the Angels last Friday, allowing four runs in five innings.

Brazobán, 34, was acquired from the Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for utility prospect Wilfredo Lara. Brazobán has a 2.93 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings this season. He has a 3.56 era in 97 major league appearances, all coming with the Marlins.

Zuber, 29, was also acquired before Tuesday’s deadline. The Mets sent relief prospect Paul Gervase to Tampa. Zuber began the season with the Long Island Ducks before returning to the Rays organization. He dominated in Triple-A (2.49 ERA, 4.83 K-BB) before recently getting a chance in the big league with Tampa. Zuber gave up one run in 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts for Tampa in the majors.

Gage, 31, was recently recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, but has yet to make his Mets debut. The native New Yorker has a 3.42 ERA in Triple-A this season and a 1.65 ERA in 16 major league appearances.

In other pitcher news, right-hander Sean Reid-Foley is joining Double-A Binghamton today as he continues his rehab assignment.
