Baseball Canada reveals roster for WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Finals

<p>Baseball Canada has revealed its 20-member roster for the <a href="https://www.wbsc.org/en/events/2024-ix-womens-baseball-world-cup-finals/home">WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals 2024 presented by CARNEXT</a>, set to take place in Thunder Bay, Canada from 28 July to 3 August.</p>

<p>“We are really happy with the group of players that have

been selected to represent Canada in Thunder Bay,” said team manager Anthony

Pluta. “The talent level of the players selected speaks to the quality of

athlete in Canada. We can’t wait to get to Thunder Bay and compete with this

group for a World Championship.”</p>

<p>The roster was finalised following the <a href="https://www.wbsc.org/en/news/canada-to-select-womens-baseball-world-cup-finals-roster-from-july-3-to-7">women’s national team selection camp</a> in Ottawa earlier this month. </p>

<p>Fourteen of the selected players, including Amy Johnson, Madison Willan, and Sena Catterall, were part of the team that secured a second-place finish behind USA at the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group A stage last year in Thunder Bay. Returnees like Liz Gilder and Mia Valcke, who helped Canada to a bronze medal in the 2018 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup, are also included.</p>

<p>Sophy Gagné, from the 2019 squad that earned bronze at the WBSC Americas Women’s Baseball World Cup Qualifier, is back on the roster. Newcomers Andréanne Leblanc, Cassie Matlock and Michelle Roche will be representing Canada for the first time in international competition.</p>

<p>The experienced coaching staff, led by Pluta, includes Patricia Landry, Aaron Myette, Kate Psota and Ashley Stephenson.</p>

<p>Canada will start its campaign on 28 July at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay, competing against Japan, USA, Venezuela, and Chinese Taipei. The World Championship Final and Bronze Medal games are scheduled for 3 August.</p>

<p>Prior to the tournament, Canada will hold a training camp at Baseball Central in Thunder Bay from 23-26 July, featuring exhibition games against the Thunder Bay Lakers on 24 July and USA on 26 July.</p>
