Jett Williams, Brandon Sproat Among BP’s Top 50 Prospects

Shortstop/center fielder Jett Williams and starter Brandon Sproat each made the midseason update of Baseball Prospectus’ list of top 50 prospects released Wednesday.

Williams, No. 37 on the list, is recovering from right wrist surgery and could to return to action in August. The 20-year-old played in 11 games for Double-A Binghamton before getting hurt. In 50 plate appearances, he hit .180/.360/.308 with three doubles and two stolen bases in three attempts.

As a 19-year-old last year, the 2022 first-round draft pick hit .263/.425/.451 with 13 home runs across three minor-league levels. He was 45-for-52 stealing bases.

Sproat, 23, is 6-1 with a 1.71 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 14 appearances (13 starts) at Binghamton and Single-A Brooklyn. In his eight starts at Binghamton, the right-hander is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and 0.87 WHIP. The hard thrower ranked 45 on the list.

Sproat is in just his first pro season after being drafted in the second round of the 2023 draft. Despite that, chatter in the industry suggests that he could be ready to make his major league debut this season out of the bullpen.
